At the Special Members Meeting concerning hard surface flooring held on Monday, June 7th, a quorum in order to conduct business was not obtained. Due to the lack of a quorum being obtained, the proposed amendment of the documents to prohibit hard surface flooring failed. As a result, the flooring criteria approved at the May 5, 2010 meeting is now in effect. This document is named "HIW Flooring Rules & Regulations", and can be viewed under the "Documents" section of this website. It is important for anyone considering applying for hard surface flooring to read and understand that document in advance. An ARC application packet has also been uploaded under the "Forms" section. |

Over the May 1st weekend, mosquitos swarmed over HIW. Mosquito Control measures the mosquito level in HIW with two traps place on-site, which are monitored several times a week. On the evening of May 5th, Mosquito Control brought in a truck and fogged for mosquitos. This will be done a number of times throughout the summer.
In addition, the maintenance staff has a small fogger they will be using in a number of areas in and around the buildings. |

RESIGNATIONS - We have had two resignations from our Social Committee. Gail Russell has resigned from the committee for personal reasons, however will continue to sponsor our singles night along with Georgia Mills and Hatsuko Koyata. This newly-formed club has had huge success and have planned several activities together, i.e. kayaking, a dinner at Benihana, and others. If you're single and haven't joined, get on board - you'll love it!
Linda Clerke, who has been a member of our committee since its inception, is also leaving us. Linda has been our committee chairperson for over three years and has devoted many countless hours of work to the committee. A big "Thank You!" to Linda from the committee and all of Harbour Isle West for your endless efforts in helping bring special events to the community. Linda's husband Bill is retiring and they plan to travel and enjoy more leisure time. Enjoy! We wish you both well and will miss you.
In addition to these resignations, several of the committee members are seasonal residents and will also be leaving us shortly. In view of this, we'd like to ask that some of our full-time residents consider devoting some time for the summer months to the committee. The Social Committee will definitely need more help if we are to continue having functions during the summer months. Please join!
NEW WOMENS GOLF CLUB - The Social Committee will be sponsoring a golf group which will begin in October of 2010. Geri Clarke will be organizing this group and anyone interested is asked to email Geri at

Bicycle cables have been permanently installed on the ground floor walls underneath the stairwells in each side of every building. They can be used to tether bikes to the wall using your own chain and lock. This will eliminate the need to chain bikes to the hand rails and should significantly deter bike theft within Harbour Isle West. |
